Soellner said he enjoys being one of the few Cashiers NC Architects. He said his experience with this mountainous region dates back 35 years, when he started visiting Western North Carolina to visit friends from college. “Over the years, I found myself trying to figure out how and when I could retire and move here,” said Soellner, “Then one day and woke up and said to myself: Now why is it that I have to first retire in order to live where I want to live?”
He said when he did move here to become one of the Cashiers NC architects, that it took awhile to become established. Then his latest design work was noticed and he started receiving more commissions. After a while, the momentum began, and the more houses he designed, the more other people noticed and wanted similar design capabilities being used to design their dream houses. And the rest, as they say, is history.
